In a couple of weeks I am attending my first ever blogger conference. I’ve been to a couple of networking events, but the Problogger conference is huge. Apparently, between the 400 bloggers attending, we have a combined reach of 15 million. Yikes.
The reason I’m attending this nerve-wracking event is because I want to grow this here little blog to spread the word about eco-living and inspire even the tiniest change in a wide range of people. Oh, and one day it would be nice to earn a few dollars for all the time I spend slaving away at my love child.
Anyway, at the Problogger conference, we will learn all kinds of cool things like Facebook marketing and how to make video content, and hear from some incredible bloggers, such as Tsh Oxenreider, Pip Lincolne and Nicole Avery.
The question I am asking myself is: how can I best represent Down to Earth Mother at this important event? Perhaps if they all came to my house I could show them that I practise what I preach, but in a hotel conference centre on the Gold Coast? Hmmmm.
So here’s what I’ve come up with and I would LOVE your advice, if you have some to offer.
Dress to impress
Everything I wear at Problogger 2013 will be ethically sourced or second-hand. That’s because you can still dress to impress without buying something new or damaging. These babies from Lifeline will probably make an appearance: barely-worn Nine West flats or Blue Illusion slingbacks. Or if I’m feeling like my brain can’t cope with anything but extreme comfort, my trusty TOMS shoes will be on my tootsies.
Make a statement with “business cards”
Yes, I used inverted commas. That’s because my “business cards” (there they are again!) are actually a rubber stamp created for me by a small business Think It Ink It. I am collecting cardboard packaging to upcycle into cards to hand out to all those hundreds of people who request them…
Try not to let them see my fear…
Sometimes I really suck at making with the chit-chat. Especially when I’m experiencing brain-overload or have low blood-sugar. My husband actually looks forward to these events when I can bring home tales of foot-in-mouth disease and how I told some blogging genius that her punctuation sucks. Oh dear. For me, the best cure for nervousness is some quality low-tox face paint (ie makeup, such as Adorn Cosmetics) and a smile. Failing that I’ll tappity-tap on my iPhone, pretending I’m doing something bloggish.
Tickets to the Problogger conference are sold out, but it you’re interested in buying a virtual ticket, you can do so here. Tix are $249 and you get access to the whole shebang, to be viewed and listened to in the comfort of your ugg boots. Please note, I am an affiliate and get a cut if you buy your ticket using this link.
If you’re going to the Problogger conference on the Gold Coast, please find me (probably near the food) and say hello!
